Saturday and Sunday 10 & 11 September 2022 will see the 17th running of the Tour de Ghaap Ultra Mountain Bike Race. It begins on the farm Lyfontein. It is situated approximately 85 kms North-West of Kimberley on the R31 en route to Postmansburg. On the first day a distance of 77 kms is covered on a new circular route with the King and Queen of the mountain at about 37 kms on Gorrakop , and on the second day 38 kms on a more technical course .

Day one places emphasis on speed and endurance. Day two concentrates on technical skills as the route winds through mountainous terrain.

On route on day one there are 4 water and energy points and on day two 2 water and energy points. At the base camp, Lyfontein is food and drinks provided from Friday evening until Sunday lunch. Cyclists and their families are responsible for their own tents and camping gear. All cyclists sleepover at Lyfontein on a Friday evening. Collecting of cyclists numbers and goody bags is at Lyfontein from 12h00 Friday 9 Sept 2022. Basic washing and ablution facilities are available.

Friday evening is pasta evening. On Saturday evening a full braai is given and a full lunch is served on Sunday for all riders and paid visitors. Sat & Sunday will breakfast be served A cash bar will be available for the whole weekend.

The race starts at 09h00 on Saturday morning at the farm Lyfontein, and 08h00 on Sunday. The little ones take part in a mini race at 16h00. Departure after the event and lunch on Sunday will be at 13h00. The costs for the event vary per category per rider. Check the entry form on the website for special cost arrangements for the non-riding family members.

The Tour de Ghaap is competing for the position of the best mountain biking experience in central South Africa.
